WAN Transport Engineer - DIRECT LABORThe mid-Level WAN/Transport Engineer develops solutions for the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet and is responsible for hardware and software product testing, total solution level verification, networking features and protocol verification for layers 2-7, identification of complex networking problem root causes, and solution recommendations.
The candidate should possess excellent planning, organizational, and people skills. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to exercise independent judgment and take initiative and have a positive, results-oriented approach to assignments. The candidate must also be a self-starter, self motivated, and independent with strong work ethics. The individual should also have the ability to estimate task duration and deliver on commitments; ability to develop and communicate designs, strategies, tactics, and schedules. Qualifications: Understanding of TCP protocols and OSI layers; comprehensive knowledge of Wide Area Network (WAN) installations and troubleshooting; comprehensive knowledge of router and switch installation and troubleshooting, and experience in network design. Must be able to craft configuration documents and engineering work orders in various formats according to client needs and standards. Must be able to interface with other teams to create an overall solution. Experience using network management tools. Must be able to obtain Security Clearance, COMPTIA Security+ certification.
Ability to obtain Interim Secret Clearance
Desired: Preferred candidate will have experience with Cisco and Riverbed products, experience with virtual infrastructure networking, experience working in a DoD networking environment, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, and experience with ITIL framework.
