Kelly Engineering Resources has a terrific Buyer/Planner opportunity available for a customer located in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Our customer provides strategic planning, global sourcing, technical services, parts and materials, logistics, distribution, inventory management and program implementation services to diversified original equipment manufacturers, manufacturers, assemblers and distributors worldwide.
Job Scope for Buyer/Planner:
The Buyer/Planner plans and controls materials requirements and purchases to support the continuous flow and delivery of product to the customer at the highest quality and lowest total cost. Works with the global sourcing organization and the materials manager to develop and execute business strategies impacting supply chain consolidation, cost reduction, quality improvement as well as supplier assessment and associated scorecard activities.
Responsibilities for Buyer/Planner:
- For assigned portfolio of items optimize inventory level across multiple distribution centers and achieve customer on time delivery goals
- Issue purchase orders and work orders in support of distribution plans and customer requirements. Expedite/de-expedite orders as needed. Work directly with assigned suppliers to obtain product and service information, availability and delivery schedule
- Review the site-level demand forecasts by SKU and work with forecast analyst to ensure forecast accuracy
- Maintain accurate system data, such as bills of material, purchase costs, lead times, etc.
- Identify and implement key areas of opportunity to drive aggregate cost and quality improvements. May be done in conjunction with company-wide sourcing activities
- Resolve supplier invoice discrepancies and coordinate disposition of non-conforming material
Qualifications for Buyer/Planner:
- BS Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations or similar field
- Minimum of 5 years experience in materials planning, procurement, demand planning, or similar, using an inventory planning software package. Experience in a distribution environment a plus
- Minimum of intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Access
- Certification such as CPIM or CPM strongly preferred
- Experience in ISO9000 and continuous improvement initiatives such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and JIT preferred
- Demonstrate attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Possess strong analytical and problem solving ability
- Highly motivated and able to excel with little supervision
