Job Description
As a FHA/DE Mortgage Underwriter, you will be responsible for the prudent underwriting of conventional and FHA loans in accordance with company and investor guidelines. The FHA / DE Mortgage Underwriter must also:
- Evaluate the entire credit package and collateral for residential mortgage loans and ultimately ensure an ?investment" quality loan product.
- Check accuracy of all calculations.
- Assist with training of new underwriters.
- Recommend the loan disposition, for loan amounts in excess of authority limitation, to underwriting manager.
- Maintain a productivity level and comply with company policy of a 24 to 48 hour underwriting turnaround time.
- Communicate decision on loans to appropriate parties both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain underwriting activity logs and provide monthly underwriting report to underwriting manager.
- Be available to processors and loan officers for general guideline interpretations and questions on specific loan files.
- Possess sound knowledge of automated underwriting and guidelines.
- Respond to post-closing reviews and audits in a timely fashion.
- Perform related duties as directed by underwriting manager.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years residential first mortgage underwriting experience with sound working knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC and FHA/VA underwriting guidelines, as well as familiarity with private investor and private mortgage insurance guidelines.
- Experience with DU and LP Automated Underwriting systems.
- Ability to work effectively under specific time constraints.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, overtime if necessary.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Certificates, Licenses, and / or Registrations
- FHA Direct Endorsement. (Active and current CHUMS number)
- VA SAR approval
- Must have valid state driver?s license.
